A new project, code-named 'Breeze' is a recently unveiled plan by Alstom and Eversholt Rail where they're looking to convert the existing stock of Class 321 trains to run on Hydrogen. It has been a long time coming to implement Hydrogen powered trains to the UK rail network but plans are beginning to take shape.

By re-engineering the current trains the UK hopes to create a cleaner option for the modern age with hopes of a roll out by 2022. The Class 321 was chosen due to its proven and reliable history as well as it's fleet size and availability for conversion to a Hydrogen Multiple Unit (HMU).

By working closely with industry stakeholders, Alstom and Eversholt Rail look to develop a business case to evaluate a detailed introduction plan for fleets of the innovative trains and the associated fuelling infrastructure.
