Further positive news for the European solar industry with over 10GW to be installed in Germany over the next three years. 1GW of capacity will be available via tenders this year for projects over 750kW in capacity with a further 3GW in in the next two years. With more renewable capacity coming online, the costs of integrating this energy into the grid is pushing up electricity prices across the board which will drive further solar deployment as households and businesses look to self-consumption to insulate themselves from these price hikes. This self-consumption business model looks set to be the dominant factor in solar demand in Germany for the next few years. We're also seeing solar deployment figures on the rise throughout Europe with subsidy-free projects gaining pace.

EuPD Research is anticipating a slight rise in new capacity this year, to 2.93 GW, with a surge to 3.57 GW next year and 3.9 GW in 2021, helped by the extraordinary tenders for large-scale solar and wind enabled by November’s Energy Act.
