The question of what to do with used car batteries is one of the most important topics when it comes to mass electric mobility. 

VW and MAN have now started an experiment which sees 50 9.9kWh batteries from Passat GTE`s to be combined at bus terminal in Hamburg to improve the utilisation of the network and reduce peak loads when the electric buses are charged. 

If successful, the system can reduce up to 600 kw of peak load and reduce costs significantly. 

This is another example of the importance of second life usage of batteries.  

We will see many other applications and use cases once the market for second life batteries has matured and market participants can rely on certain common standards. In particular the question of certification is still unclear. However, companies like Circunomics are working on an interesting model to do exactly that.
